From his parlour window, William D. Lawrence would have watched his bustling shipbuilding yard on the shore of Cobequid Bay. The largest full-rigged ship built in Canada, the William D Lawrence, was built and launched here in 1874. A special outdoor exhibit provides background on the Lawrence family and the shipbuilding heritage of the area. Indoors, an exhibit features the people of Maitland and the time of Lawrence in more than 40 photographs, quotations and displays. An interesting introduction to Nova Scotias first Heritage District, Maitland.
